Original Oil Painting

Belgian Linen Canvas

"According to myth, Pegasus is the child of Poseidon and Medusa. He is part god and part horse.

Poseidon was the god of seas, storms and horses. He was charged with protecting the sea and all aquatic features. Pegasus emerged from the water, after his mother was killed by Perseus along with his twin Chrysaor.

Medusa was attacked by Poseidon when she was a ravishingly beautiful young maiden. She then was changed into a gorgon by Athena who was jealous of her suitors.

According to legend, everywhere the winged horse struck his foot an inspiring spring burst forth.

In this painting, I tried to capture elements of Pegasus and his heritage. For example, if you look closely there is a birth mark with serpent scales." -JulieAnn
